Several weeks ago my good friends Jennifer and Mike Hefner let me visit them in Reston, Virginia and tag along to a wedding they were photographing. They are both excellent photographers, mentors and editors. They are a husband/wife team for their photo company Vita Images. Their style of photography is one that has been increasingly popular in the recent years – the documentary approach – and weddings and portraiture are their specialties.
The wedding of Holly and John was a beautiful vineyard wedding at the Potomac Point Winery in Stafford, Virginia. The setting was ideal and these shots I got capture the beauty of the vineyards, the ceremony and the couple.
I’ve worked as a photographer for years, first in news and now for myself in Tampa, but one thing I’ve learned in life is there is always room to learn from others whose work I admire. I have always tried to share my knowledge and experience with others and Mike and Jennifer do the same without hesitation.
Throughout the weekend we talked for hours. Not just about photos and good images, but also about what goes into getting and making good images. Planning and preparation, anticipation, lighting, exposure, composition and everything else that goes into making that “money frame.”
Thank-you Mike and Jennifer for an insightful weekend. It was a weekend of great friends, great learning, great love and great photos.
